CAFESCOR relatively new to specialty coffee processing in western Honduras, has quickly gained a strong reputation. Their success stems from a centralized approach involving over 400 member-producers. A central wet-mill ensures processing consistency by floating cherries with recycled water to remove damaged beans, depulping, and washing with a water-efficient demucilager. Coffee is pre-dried on patios and then dried in guardiolas heated by recycled coffee parchment. Dried parchment is stored and milled in Corquin, where mild weather aids in resting parchment and preparing coffee for export. CAFESCOR’s fully equipped cupping lab ensures consistent quality. They also produce organic fertilizer from coffee pulp using California earthworms, yielding 3,000 pounds per hectare, allowing producers to focus on farm management and cherry picking.
